Stress is a universal experience, but understanding it can empower you to navigate life’s challenges and improve your well-being. The Secret of Stress is an 11-week online course that explores the science of stress, health, and resilience, led by Dr. George Slavich.
Course Highlights

- Sessions: Weekly virtual sessions every Friday from 12:00–1:15 PM Pacific Time, including one hour of lecture and a 15-minute Q&A.
In this course, you’ll explore the science behind stress, uncovering what it is and how it impacts the brain, body, and overall health. You’ll learn practical, evidence-based strategies to build resilience and navigate stress effectively, gaining tools to improve both personal and community well-being. The course adopts a life-course perspective, examining stress and resilience from early development through older adulthood. It also uniquely integrates insights from psychology, biology, sociology, and genetics to provide a holistic understanding of how stress shapes our lives.

Dr. George Slavich is the Lead Principal Investigator of the CAL STAR Network, and is in charge of its overall mission and research activities. He is a leading expert on the basic science, assessment, and management of life stress. Dr. Slavich conducts research on how stress affects mental and physical health, and provides expert stress consultation and management services to major public and private organizations. Currently, he is a professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences at UCLA, and a Research Scientist at the Semel Institute for Neuroscience & Human Behavior where he directs the UCLA Laboratory for Stress Assessment and Research.
